Wikipedia is committing suicide.

Considering the other option is, largely, to die of LLMs in 5 years, perhaps this is sensible.

But it is sad to watch.

----

After Charlie Kirk was killed, an editor quickly created an article about his widow, Erica Kirk.

This was, speedily, nominated for deletion.

The discussion remained open for FIVE AND A HALF DAYS, because a few liberals didn't like Charlie Kirk and wanted to drag things out because of spite.

This, obviously, looked bad.

So there is now a discussion about adding a "Wait and See" vote, to do the sensible thing of deferring a discussion in this type of situation.

This is failing. Because Wikipedia is committing suicide.

There are four main arguments against it, all of which are stupid.

  • We should just do whatever has consensus.
  • Articles that don't have consensus to exist should be drafts.
  • People can already vote how they want.
  • We shouldn't do things because of how Wikipedia will be perceived.

----

For years, there has been a small cabal of editors who have been at war with the concept that articles about Airports should include data about the destinations of that airport.

First it was that it was "unsourced", so people added links to the airline route-pages.

But that is a "primary" source, and isn't specific to each route. So people added different references, and more of them.

Then those references were also found to be improper.

And, the sheer number of unnecessary references became an issue.

Because, once again, the fact that this information is very useful, and not easily available elsewhere, is considered to be a reason NOT to include it.

Clearly, the Hasten The Day ⚙️ a code-word for, roughly, "Wikipedia is bad and we should make it die faster" crowd has won.

it is a shame that literature is wasted on high-school students.

The book The Brothers Karamazov came up in a feed again today.

I have never read it. By design. My understanding (from reading about it) is that it is a book better enjoyed by older people. 💡 this is fine. not everything has to be for 19 year olds.

⚙️ perhaps "science" or "medicine" or "the DSM" should be a channel?

Do some tall people have "profound tallness?" (This is an autism labels side-eye)

https://buttondown.com/TPGA/archive/do-some-tall-people-have-profound-tallness/

An egregiously bad post from a part of the "autism" community that I am starting to loathe.

There are many roads to what we humans view as “being tall,” but in the end, the outcome is, well, being tall. We don’t spend a lot of time discussing tall people as being “profoundly tall” or subdividing them in some way based on their tallness. We don’t have pages of handwringing in the news media and scientific literature about how to prevent tall people from existing or indirectly implying that aim by going on and on about causes.

... the conclusion is that, just like you can't say some people are "more tall" than others, you also can't say some people are "more autistic" than others.

Except both sides of that conclusion are complete balderdash! Some tall people are far more "profoundly tall" than others! The inconveniences (and advantages) of a 7'4 person are way different than a 6'2 person! There are a lot of studies about why people are over 7 feet tall! Every one of her arguments about tall people is inaccurate ... so how is that supposed to convince you that her arguments apply elsewhere?

But, of course, she's prepared for that. If you don't agree with her analysis, you're transphobic.

Some people diagnosed with "autism" today have a profoundly different life-experience, symptoms, etc, than other people. Apart from a cabal of dishonest, dead-ender, pro-disability advocates, I don't think anyone can possibly believe this crap.

20 years ago, the line was "reality has a well-known liberal bias". Unfortunately for these self-declared left-wingers, today reality is squarely biased against them.

💭 We consider the question of how one should sit when using the AppleVision.

design follows from function.

for lying down:

  • one cable to the wall.
  • local connection: laptop to battery pack to AppleVision.

💡 the Battery Pack, in this configuration, should be placed prone, on the chest area, near the laptop. It IS an obstacle to movement, and should be placed in a way that demonstrates that fact.

two news topics today.

----

Trump - Putin summit. What will happen? 🔥 if it comes down to a battle of wits, Putin will win.

🔥 could Donald flee the country with Vlad? 💡 does Donald even speak Russian? ⚔️ well, actually ... presumably Putin speaks English?

----

also, a local business might be launching today. that coverage will be in a private Channel.

The ruling is in the smoke. 💡 It will be good to get a full ruling on the legality of Trump's various firings. There are the reductions-in-force, and the targeted removals.

💭 power lies where people see it to lie. and right now, people are seeing a lot of Donald Trump's actions ... just work.

----

it would be good for a merits ruling overturning Humphrey's Executor as well.

The court has already abandoned it.

----

🔥 perhaps I DO talk about the Supreme Court on Tisha B'av ...

⚙️ perhaps we should consider the recent "Trump firings" cases a Special Session, on behalf of the unprecedented turmoil of the early Trump administration.

----

there is a certain merit to Trump's actions. because, if Congress can't pass a budget soon, 百万人为死了。

⚙️ perhaps we need the Heads-Up Display Editor ...

a man listens to a radio broadcast about trains.

为什么那么多?为什么不是一个一天。

----

Donald Trump de-funded California High-Speed Rail. This is a good thing. 🔥 until Democrats can say this, they will not win elections.

----

there are three types of opposition to Donald Trump.

----

Donald Trump, in many ways, is fulfilling the standard Republican Party dream of eliminating substantial parts of the government. Medicaid, cut by $600 billion. Public Broadcasting, eliminated. California High-Speed Rail, eliminated. Department of Education, de-funded.

⚙️ the "de-funding" of the Department of Education is maligned on occasion. approximately 90% of the federal government's funding of education is block-grants to states. It is the other 10% of the spending which corresponded with the "de-funding".

what is it that is to come, in years beyond this Tisha B'Av?

it is the end of the system of rule-by-men.

and the start of the system of rule-by-machine.

----

why is a man seated by the keyboard?

after the coming of 卡只家, it will be to disappear.

💭 perhaps, in days of lore, the 长金属棍 that hold the earth together were load-bearing. today, they are not.

----

so today, a man at his keyboard would be there purely for his own benefit. whereas, in the dim-lit past, a man might do so for profit and for public benefit.

2025-08-03 02:29:14

⚙️ this will be a channel-color test.

----

Tisha B'Av is the day of bearings of bad news.

But, only of PUBLIC bad news.

----

AI is the apocalypse.

In 8 years, all of this will not matter.

Why does a man sit by a laptop, rather than by a child?

💡 we pray a silent prayer, for the silence.

----

💭 What does it mean to be the bearer of bad news?

💡 It means that all the world will hear it the same. they will divide history into two eras; before now, and after.

🔥 they say the New Era has already begun. on "January 1, 1970CE".

⚙️ technically not false. there is no reason to believe they would prefer the Latin-rite anno domini system, to their own native system. which, for reasons described in the Mass Media, started in 1970.
