💡 it is sometimes good to see that disparate political systems have the same problems at the same time.
Here, a region in England has the same problems as many parts of the US have with infrastructure development.
And there are two distinct problems:
- A series of bad-faith "environmental" oppositions, etc. can derail a project for decades, requiring excessive costs for no good reason.
- A "zombie" project that has no benefit will continue to be developed for decades, because nobody can kill it off.
Perhaps California High-Speed Rail is the canonical example for this type of dual problem. But the motorway in England has the same problem. If it was proposed in 2011, and nobody liked it then ... why are they building it in 2022?
Because it lives in a nether realm; where "infrastructure" can never be completed nor canceled.
The meaningless environmental "reviews" that never accomplish anything are stupid, but this author's insistence that "greenbelts" are bad and nothing should ever stop more growth is equally stupid.
